From hunting or surviving in this spectacular asymmetric horror game

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (La Matanza de Texas) is an asymmetrical horror game based on the iconic 1974 slasher. Put on the Leatherface mask, take on the role of the rest of the Sawyer Family, or survive as one of the four victims in this chilling cat and mouse game. But be careful, Grandpa is hungry and the family shouldn't be kept waiting... right? Following in the footsteps of Dead by Daylight or the more recent Friday the 13th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre presents itself as the most chilling multiplayer horror game of all time. Are you ready to escape from the most terrifying chainsaw in history?

A different asymmetric horror game than usual

If you are familiar with the genre, you will know that asymmetric horror games are based on an online hunt between two types of players: a group of survivors and a hunter. Titles like Identity V are an example of their popularity, bringing this experience to the world of free-to-play. However, one thing these games have in common is that there is always a single powerful hunter against a group of aspiring survivors. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre breaks this scheme because this time we will have 3 psychopaths chasing the victims in a 3 versus 4 (3v4) proportion. What does this achieve? A terrifyingly fun experience that you will hardly forget.

Hunter or victim? You choose

As we have mentioned, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game pits two groups against each other in each match, 3 hunters against 4 victims. As hunters, we can take on the role of the iconic Leatherface as well as the rest of the Sawyer family (Johnny, Sissy, the Hitchhiker, or Cook), while as survivors we can choose Ana, Leland, Sonny, Julie, or Connie. Both present very different gameplay. And as victims, we will have to explore, use stealth, solve puzzles, and escape from a slaughterhouse, while as hunters, we will be in charge of locating our targets, blocking any escape routes, and, of course, feeding Grandpa.

Both Hunters and Victims have unique abilities to make this hunt a much more interesting experience. The Hitchhiker, for example, can set traps, Sonny can detect any nearby noise, Leatherface can destroy doors and barricades with his iconic chainsaw, and Julie can hide from her pursuers for a certain amount of time. It is therefore essential that, regardless of our role in the match, we cooperate with the rest of the players whether we want to survive this hell or if we are going to chop our rivals into pieces.

Recreating a horror classic

One of the biggest challenges of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is undoubtedly having to recreate the suffocating atmosphere of this iconic horror franchise. Fortunately, Gun Interactive has done an excellent job of bringing some of the most memorable film locations to life. Currently, the game has 3 different maps: the Family House, the Gas Station, and the Slaughterhouse. All of them have different variations depending on the time of day we want to play, and they are also divided into indoor and outdoor areas, as well as underground mazes. In short, an ideal setting for a nightmare hunt.

Standout features

True enough The Texas Chain Saw Massacre manages to offer a unique horror experience thanks to its familiar and powerful premise. Its impressive features, however, make this survival game the real deal. Meticulously designed to challenge and terrify you at the same time, the title boasts a cinematic and atmospheric environment that would make you feel as if your very life is at stake. The daring escapes and the gruesome executions are not for the fainthearted.

Despite the lifelike depiction, the gameplay is light and fun. It comes with the right balance, enough to startle you with jump scares and get your survival instinct kicking in. Unlike other asymmetric games whose one side can only be played with a single player, this game includes a 3v4 format that allows family and friends to team up. No one gets left behind to fend for themselves alone.

At heart, the title is designed to be enjoyed by family and friends, say during Friday game nights or on Halloween. Interactive and approachable, it lets players plan and strategize together in a seamless and productive way. Not to mention it features multiple escape options that you cannot find in other similar games. The addition of several gateways not only reinforces teamwork among the players but also prevents the gameplay from becoming dull and monotonous.

A tag game that will delight genre lovers

In an oversaturated market of asymmetrical horror games, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre presents itself as a true gem for genre lovers. Despite following the genre's own formula, the game manages to have its own identity by offering interesting innovations such as adding a greater number of hunters. This not only creates a much tenser gaming experience, but also a much tenser one. By bringing back iconic characters from the film such as Leatherface or the terrifying Grandfather, we are faced with an interesting option for anyone looking for a multiplayer game to spend a terrifying evening with friends.
